We started Old Plains in 2002 with a mission to preserve the old-vine vineyards of the Adelaide Plains—many planted by post-war migrants in the 1940s and '50s. These dry-grown, low-yielding vines had survived vine-pull schemes and urban sprawl, but were at risk of disappearing forever.
As longtime friends and winemakers, we wanted to give these vineyards a voice. We work with minimal intervention—hand-picking fruit, open-top fermenting, basket pressing—focusing on honest, small-batch wines that reflect the character of the land and the resilience of these old vines.
Old Plains is our tribute to that legacy. Longhop, launched in 2005, lets us explore the same philosophy in a broader range of styles. Together, they represent our passion for making bold, expressive wines with real history behind them.
